Stitches Out.......Bump Free!

On Tuesday we drove down to Newport with hail, snow and rain on the way. We stopped at Queenswood Country Park on the way down as it's a good place to walk the dog, get  good takeaway food and drinks as well as nice clean toilets too. It used to be free to park but it's a pound for an hour, so it's still a good place to stop. Today Ben was rather surprised by a snow storm as we walked in the park.

Traffic was busy coming down the A49 and we followed a heavy load unable to pass it with all the traffic, luckily it turned off before Hereford. Eric and I popped to Shepherd's Fish and Chip shop at Maesglas to get fish and chips for four, very nice too. Still hot as it's served in  cardboard boxes and well wrapped too. With the added bonus of no washing up either.

On Wednesday we took Ben for a walk and did a bit of shopping before my appointment to have the seven stitches taken out of my scalp. Glad that's over and looking forward to a haircut  when I don't have to make sure the bumps don't show. At the moment it's too tender for a haircut. In the afternoon we had a mammoth visiting session, going to see Eric's sister  Paula,  daughter Sally and then  daughter Lisa and grandaughter Gwen. Scarlett our other grandaughter slept through our visit but we'll see them all soon.

Today we  had a quieter day, just dog walking and a trip into Newport to get a few things. We still haven't got our prescriptions as I need a blood pressure check and blood tests before I can my three months prescriptions. Eric also needs a visit to the doctor for a review. Hopefully we'll get it sorted tomorrow  and we can go home to the boat. We want to go boating!!

Another Week Gone By

Back in Newport for a few days as I'd arranged to have two pilar (sebaceous cysts) cysts removed from my scalp. You can find YouTube videos if you like  the gory details. My husband Eric referred to them as my motte 'a raised earthwork'  and barrow from the ancient burial chambers due to their shape which the surgeon found amusing. These cysts are a family thing and my dad had one removed many years ago. So my daughters have inherited them too.....sorry!  Anyway stitches out next week and my annoying lumps are gone. Just the doctor and dentist to visit and we're going boating.

Last year we didn't get very far with engine problems leaving us boatless for months, so were keeping our fingers crossed this year for no major disasters!

To Newport And Back Again

We've lots more candles on her birthday party cake

Lots of puff needed for this cake

Gwen's first cake on her birthday

Scarlett enjoying her chocolate with mum Sally

We are back on the boat now after a busy week in Newport with our family. We stayed with Clare and Ben, thanks for letting us stay again. Poppy their collie enjoyed coming for walks with Ben the dog.

We visited Tredegar House to walk the dogs in the grounds several times but the children's park is not much fun anymore with just a few swings and climbing frames remaining.  The play area at Llantarnum is amazing with zip wires and lovely new climbing frames, so Gwen had more fun there before the rain came down.

We walked Gwen's legs off in Penarth as well as mine but it was a lovely day. Ben the dog had a big drink of water when we got back to the car. Of course we had to sample the ice creams as the sun was shining.

On Friday we had cake for Gwen's eighth birthday and Sally and grandaughter Scarlett came to visit Gwen and Lisa. Scarlett enjoyed unwrapping the contents of the carrot shaped box and sampling the chocolate with a little help from her mum. Gwen and her friend Lily kept us entertained while Ben the dog stretched out and went to sleep.

Just one candle on her cake at home but lots on her party cake at the Riverfront in Newport, where she needed more puff. She had a dance party where her friends had a session with a dance teacher and performed the routine for the parents followed by a very good buffet with birthday cake.

Since we've been back we've been on a few car trips to Llangollen with Ben the dog and Shrewsbury where we had a bit of retail therapy in M&S while Ben stayed onboard. I treated myself to some new underwear (picture Eric hanging around lingerie section of M&S holding  underwear I'd chosen, he didn't mind!) and a new dressing gown. He was very patient while I tried some stuff on,  so we went to the men's dept and he had some new trousers.

Today we're going mudlarking along the towpath with Ben the dog......such fun!

The Grandparents In Newport

In Penarth
We're currently in Newport and yesterday we took Gwen and the dogs to Penarth and walked their legs off in the lovely sunshine. Here we are having a rest and an icecream of course. The dogs had a big drink of water when we got back to the car!
