A Weekend In Wales

We've just spent the weekend in Wales travelling down on Saturday afternoon when there was surprisingly little traffic. Ben slept in the back of the car or sat up taking in the scenery, so at least he wasn't wobbly. He still struggles with stairs and needs a helping hand as we hold his harness. At least on the boat there's just three steps to negotiate. It's early days in his treatment but today he was actually interested in a little play with a ball....just rolling it along the floor.

Our visit was a chance to pick up prescriptions, collect our mail from Paula, which included the new tax disc for the car which we'd arranged online. There was also a cheque from More Than for some of the cost of treatment at the vet's, not as much as we thought because we had to pay the excess twice as the treatment  spanned the end of one years policy and the start of this year's policy.   Leahurst Small Animal Teaching Hospital claims directly from the insurance company so at least we didn't have a big bill to pay upfront. We do have to pay 10% of the cost.

We had a chance to see our family before we headed back on Wednesday. My dad as usual was busy gardening when we visited him but he did stop for a cuppa and a chat. Lisa cooked us Sunday lunch which was lovely and was great to see our grandaughter Gwen who is growing up fast. Our younger grandaughter Scarlett is five months old now but we didn't get to  see her  as  she's away visiting her other nanny and grandad.way with her parents. Thanks to Clare and Ben for letting us stay......see you all soon.

Ben's Back Onboard

Today we collected Ben the dog from Leahurst. He has an infection causing swelling and inflammation in his brain so he's on pills ( hidden in cheese cubes of course). He was very pleased to see us after four's the longest time we've been apart. We certainly missed him ....perhaps I'll sleep better tonight. We'll have to call him wobbly Ben, but then he answers to various names already. Back to the hospital in four weeks.

Just A Quick Update On Ben

Today Ben had an appointment at Leahurst Small Animal Teaching Hospital and after a consultation  with a vet from the Neurology Dept he had an MRI. They diagnosed a weakness on his right hand side and swelling/inflammation of the brain  causing the symptoms once they'd ruled out  a tumour. He's still in Leahurst while they do tests to find out what is causing the swelling/inflammation, so they know how to treat it. Hopefully he's in with a chance as we miss him already.

Busy Going Nowhere

This week we've played the waiting game, waiting for a phone call and it finally came after I rang the vet to say we'd heard nothing  from Leahurst. Two hours later I had the appointment we were waiting for but not until the 19th of May. We popped in the vets for some more tablets to keep him going until our appointment. Next I had to ring the insurance company to inform them about the referral to Leahurst, print off the forms they needed and some forms sent to us by email from the hospital. Luckily the printer did not run out of ink.
Ben and I have had some wobbly walks, sometimes he's better than others and he's slept a lot too but he's OK. It only us playing the waiting game and wondering what's wrong.
This weekend BWML Whixall are having an open weekend offering free mooring to visitors and there's also a barbecue for the berth holders so let's hope the weather is kind to us.

Ben The Dog Update

We've been back and for Ellesmere to the lovely vets at Blakemere Veterinary  Centre and had consultations  and medication to find out what's causing our wobbly dog to wobble. This morning we had to take him at 8.30  for a general anaesthetic so he could have X-rays on his spine and hips. It failed to show any bony problems in his hips, infact he has perfect hip bones according to the vet. She thinks a vertebra in his neck may be slightly out of line, the next step is a referral to Liverpool and an MRI hopefully next week. Hopefully that will show up what's wrong.

So we are currently going nowhere until Ben the dog is sorted's just as well that we like it at Whixall Marina.
