After a cosy night with log fire burning, we decided to get up and work the first lock. The long handled windlass made it easier and Eric is great at steering this long boat. Now we are off to the boat yard for our first engine service, when this is done we are really off on our travels.

Just a short blog as internet access is slow (GPRS) in Sandbach, also it disconnects at inappropriate times, when you are trying to see your emails! The finish on the woodwork is amazing and the standard of the overall boat is superb- we are delighted. We are shattered this moving home bit takes it out of you! But we are warm and cosy now and it's getting a bit tidier and we do have room to move in the saloon. Eric will get some photos taken when we've found a home for the stuff we brought. He's taken a load back to Newport to dispose of, otherwise we'd sink! This moving house is literally a 'moving house' the wind is up and there are waves on the canal- it's just as well I don't feel sea sick. Anyway back to getting this home sorted.

We arrived at Sandbach for our trial and 'Bendigedig' was there to welcome us. The sun managed to shine although it was very cold and the canal has thin ice boken up by previous travellers. The first thing that was obvious was how quiet the engine was, even though all that covered it was the wooden floor panel of the traditional stern. She manoevered well although we left Artie to turn her around at a very tight turning point. We explored the interior and the central heating warmed us up. Here are the photographs Eric took.
The mattress feels comfy too!
The galley with the breakfast bar.
The saloon, waiting for the bed settee!
The builders are busy doing the snagging and we are due to 'move in' on Friday at 4pm. I really don't know where our stuff will fit, but I'll soon find out!

The news we have been waiting for- the boat is ready for us to go to Sandbach for our trial next Tuesday accompanied by the boat builders to check it all out. As long as everything goes to plan we will start living our dream on Friday. In the meantime its packing our belongings, cleaning the flat and going out for a celebratory meal with family. I am a nervous and excited all at the same time. I know we are making the right decision to live on a narrowboat but there is still some apprehension as it's a very big change of life! Then I think life's not a rehearsal you've got to follow your dreams- even thought they are forecasting SNOW!

We visited our boat today- it's nearly done, it should be finished for the 1st of February. Here are some of the photographs! If you click on a photograph you get an enlargement.
The bow looks amazing!
